The Best Way to Jump Start Another Car

In addition to jumper cables, you should have a pair of work gloves and safety glasses when you try to jump-start a car.

Bring the cars as close as you can, so the cables can reach both batteries.

Turn the car lights and engine off, open the hoods and get your gloves and glasses on.

The jumper cables need to be connected to the car batteries in a certain order.

Red is positive, black is negative.
1. Red to positive on good battery.
2. Red to positive on bad battery.
3. Black to negative on good battery.
4. Black to any metal surface near bad battery.

Now you turn over the car with the good battery, rev the engine a few times and wait about two minutes.

Try starting the other car, it might take a couple tries.
